Meet the Author

Kathy is an RN and Family Nurse Practitioner. She grew up in Niagara Falls, New York and moved to Richmond, Virginia and started her career at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University (MCV/VCU).  Then she had the opportunity to work in the Middle East in Saudi Arabia at the King Faisal Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh and Jeddah and the Saudi Aramco Oil Company in Udhailiyah.

Her stories and those of colleagues are about expatriates working in medical settings in Saudi Arabia. The stories reveal some of the challenges and heartbreak faced by those professionals. The trans-cultural nature of the work and using interpreters in very high risk settings in ICUs and Transplant centers was a constant struggle. Adding the complexities of religion, language and culture made these stories even more challenging and rewarding.
